7.10 Impact of new technology
Internet technology may change the way that software and documents are controlled and accessed. For
example, organisations may have a policy of looking for the latest version of a software package or
document on the Internet.
Examples of new technology's impact on Configuration
Management include:
- growth in Service Management, network, enterprise and System Management tools
- interfaces to system and network management tools
- software Configuration Management coming into the scope of Service Management
tools
- graphical representations with drill down
- reporting tools that access objects from several databases, providing integrated
reports across systems - e.g. the CMDB,
DSL and Service
Management tools
- links to discovery, collection and audit tools.
